The experience seamlessly combines video, audio, and virtual reality to create an entertaining but educational programme that does justice to the beauty of the natural marvel. Through the chapters, the viewers learn about how coral grows, the source of the cacophony of different sounds from the bottom of the sea, the mantis shrimp, and much more.

Visitors aboard the virtual ‘Alucia Expedition’ can witness stunning seascapes with 1,500 species of fish and hundreds of different types of corals from the safety of their homes. In the introduction, Attenborough describes it as, “one of the most spectacular, complex, but fragile ecosystems in the world.” In his beloved style, the narrator personalises the experience for the audience with vibrant and passionate descriptions of his first dive almost 60 years ago.

The programme comes complete with a map of the distance covered through the virtual escape to satisfy your wanderlust. The reef is of 2,300 kilometres along the Australian coastline and is almost twice the size of any other coral reef present in the world.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has kept us indoors but there is no reason to restrict your imagination. Real-life travel might not be possible in the distant future but get through these extraordinary times with a virtual escape sure to take your breath away!
