Vistara’s in-flight safety video brings a fresh perspective on this otherwise monotonous snippet, by fusing India’s many gems and yoga, without compromising on the safety demos. Take a look at some of these other super cool airline safety videos that have cranked it up a notch in the past! By Bayar Jain
As much as travellers enjoy taking to the skies and soaring high above the clouds in aeroplanes, the drag safety videos can often be a snooze-fest. It’s often the same routine: tighten your seat belts, keep your tray tables closed, masks will drop under immense cabin pressure, etc. Over the years, these monotonous routines have been sidelined, often resulting in passengers turning a blind eye to what is being said. Vistara, an India-based full-service airline, found a way to spice things up with their latest safety video.
In a press release on the airline’s official website, the joint venture between Tata Sons Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) announced the release of their first in-flight safety video on its new Airbus A321neo and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. In the dual-language video (available in Hindi and English), all the necessary safety instructions are demonstrated through various yoga, in turn bringing a relaxed and calming tinge to the entire experience. Backdropping these poses are scenic locations from all around the country, such as Ladakh’s Pangong Tso, Kerala’s Kannur beach, Meghalaya’s Dwaki river, and Maharashtra’s Malshej Ghat among others.
We trod down memory lane and look at some of the other amazing in-flight safety videos that have caught our eye over the years:
1. Virgin America’s Dance Song
The best way to counter an otherwise slow-paced safety videos is to amp up the tempo, and Virgin America’s version did just that! A groovy tune underscores the footage, while smartly-written rap explains the entire procedure. A special mention to the little girl who brings the sass in safety! While the airlines shut shop in 2018, the safety video continues to live on.
2. Air New Zealand’s Hobbit Edition
An ode to celebrate the third and final film in The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, this high-budget safety video stars Elijah Wood and Sir Peter Jackson themselves, as well as special cameos from the rest of the star cast—shot straight from Middle Earth!
3. Delta Air Lines’ Ode To Memes
With adults largely already aware of in-flight safety norms, it’s the younger crowd who needs to pay attention to it the most, and what better way to do so than bring memes into the frame? Tapping into internet audience onboard, Delta Air Lines brings together stars like Keyboard Cat, Dramatic Chipmunk and a certain Screaming Goat with a penchant for pop music.
4. Qatar Airways‘ Football Fanatics
Football fans, this one is for you! This hilarious in-flight safety video features football club Barcelona’s (then) team members either explaining the procedures or facilitating the same. Shot during a make-believe soccer match, the super funny take is sure to grab eyeballs.
