A story by The Washington Post notes that in the 1980s, the concept of ‘revenge spending’ emerged in China as a knee-jerk reaction to the Cultural Revolution-induced poverty. Then, spending on luxury commodities later saw an upward rise. A similar situation is expected with travelling too.

While sinister sounding, ‘revenge travelling’ is simply the act of adding more bucket list destinations to your travels to counter the long dry spell. This could be vacations, staycations, workations, or simply a motivation-less holiday away from home. Picking up as a response to the months-long home confinements, a Mckinsey report notes that travel would be the second thing that people will pick up (first being eating out). Domestic travel, in particular, is expected to see the first wave while international travel would take longer to gain momentum, states the report.

Additionally, a dip in prices could also be expected as brands would compete to lure customers into its abodes.
