Much like everything else in the post-pandemic world, day-to-day living and expenses has seen an overhaul as well. Collating this metamorphosis is a new study by The Economist Intelligence Unit, which has recently revealed the world’s most expensive cities to live in. Here is all we know about these new rankings. As per a new research by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which has studied the cost of living across various cities around the globe, the pandemic has affected daily expenses in a differing manner across the world. While some cities have seen an upward rise in expenses, some others have dipped. This conclusion has been found by comparing and contrasting the expenditure of 138 everyday items.

In doing so, it was found that China’s special administrative region, Hong Kong; France’s capital, Paris; and Switzerland’s capital, Zurich are the world’s most expensive cities. City-state Singapore has clinched the fourth spot, followed by a tie between Japan’s port city, Osaka; and Israel’s coast city, Tel Aviv. Notably, Singapore has seen a drop by three spots since it’s ranking last year. As per a report by Indian Express, New Delhi currently stands at the 121st position out of a total of 133 nations.

On the other hand, Syria’s capital Damascus has been dubbed as the world’s least expensive city to live in. Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Lusaka, Zambia; Caracas, Venezuela; and Almaty, Kazakhstan occupy the following positions.

According to a report by CNNcurrency fluctuations—particularly a dip in USD—has given rise to these changes in ranking. The report notes that while places in Africa, Americas, and Eastern Europe has gotten cheaper since March, Western Europe has largely seen the opposite effect as the Euro has risen in value when compared to the USD.
