ADVENTURE  

The seascapes around Zanzibar can only mean a variety of water sports that is certain to get adrenaline junkies on a high. On offer are snorkelling and diving that help you get a glimpse of the magnificent diversity of marine life. There are also slightly staid but exciting nevertheless activities like cruises and kayaking. However, for those looking for extreme adventure, there is windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, water-skiing and kite boarding.

In a setting going back to the 19th century, and a palace no less, Emerson Spice Cafe is the place for celebrity spotting. The rooftop seating is especially popular and ideal for taking in the sunset with sun-downers. The restaurant dishes up some of the best seafood and a mix of local cuisine with such dishes as prawns with grilled mango, lobster on green papaya salad, fish cooked in banana leaf and spiced rice.  

EXPLORE  

Jozani Forest, a protected nature reserve, is the only forest in Zanzibar and worth exploring for its uniqueness. Located on a limestone marine terrace, it has mangroves and a salt marsh. It is home to the Zanzibar red colobus, an indigenous monkey found only here, as well as other endangered species such as Aders’ duiker, servaline genet and Zanzibar leopard, which enjoys a mythical status.

Located in Kendwa, the Zuri is quite literally off the beaten track since it sits at the end of an unpaved road that dips gently into the sea. An eco-resort, it has unparalleled views of the ocean and the best stretch of beach in the area. The resort comprises of thatched villas in clusters connected by jungle paths lit by lanterns to resemble an African village, while luxury forms the leitmotif.
