Like many other things, the ongoing pandemic has brought a halt to the on-ground celebrations of Ziro Festival Of Music 2020. As a result, the organisers—members of the Apatani people in Ziro—are forced to ferry down the internet route instead. Taking to Instagram to announce this latest development, Ziro Festival Of Music 2020 will now take place virtually on November 21 and 22, in effect slashing down the duration of the festival by half. The post also points to a collaboration between British Council India, British Council Wales, Arts Council of Wales, and Wales Arts International to make this virtual party possible. While more details are awaited, comments on the post suggest that fans are eagerly waiting!

Notably, the team had earlier posted on Instagram saying that this year’s festival had been postponed for 2021. A post on their Facebook account states that this move, although taken in lieu of the pandemic situation, is a ‘time to heal’.

True music lovers would know how coveted Arunachal Pradesh’s famous Ziro Festival Of Music is. After all, the outdoor event is ordinarily held on the rolling green expanses of the state’s Ziro Valley with four days of unadulterated independent musicians and songwriters performing live. Adding to this happiness is the fact that it is routinely dubbed as the country’s most eco-friendly festival, wherein even the event’s basic infrastructure is brought to life using locally sourced material. Since its inception in 2012, the event has seen artists like Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, MONO, Divine, Shaa’ir + Func, Indus Creed, Peter Cat Recording Co, Menwhopause, and Barmer Boys among others, to enthral audiences.
