If you’re planning to visit this archipelago in the Bay of Bengal, you have to follow some guidelines or be willing to cough up a hefty fine. We tell you more about it. By Meenakshi Maidas

All tourists flying into Andaman and Nicobar islands from Indian mainland must carry a negative RT-PCR test report, issued by an ICMR-approved lab, taken 48 hours prior to departure. These new guidelines were issued by The Ministry of Civil Aviation to control fresh COVID-19 infections from entering the islands and to promote tourism, reports India.com.

All travellers will have to take a rapid antigen test upon arriving at Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair. Those who get tested positive will have to undergo quarantine either at identified hotels on payment basis or at institutional quarantine centres, free of cost. Even if one is tested negative, a seven-day quarantine is mandatory. But if you are going to Swaraj Island (formerly Havelock Island), Shaheed Dweep (formerly Neil Island) or Little Andaman, you will have to quarantine for three more days, making it a total of 10 days’ quarantine. If you don’t follow the guidelines, however, you will reportedly have to pay INR 5,000 for each violation.

Notably, DNAIndia reports that the union territory did not record new Coronavirus cases on July 12. Quoting a health department official privy to the local situation of the islands, the report further notes that no fresh fatalities have also been recorded on that same day.

Monsoon is one of the best seasons to visit Andaman and Nicobar islands since tourists can enjoy ample activities both, indoor and outdoor. The lush greenery and scenic beauty come alive during this season. Book your tickets now and you could be sipping Mai Tais on the beachside within days; but, safety first!
