Foreseeing the impending third onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Gujarat has released new travel guidelines for both international and domestic travellers heading to the state. International travellers from Europe, United Kingdom and the Middle East will be required to undergo RT-PCR tests upon arrival at Ahmedabad and Surat, as reported in The Financial Express. Meanwhile, those flying in from Brazil, South Africa and the United Kingdom, even if they test negative, will have to quarantine at home for a week.

After the quarantine and a subsequent negative COVID-19 test, they will be allowed out of homes. International passengers also need to fill out the Novel Corona self-reporting form and download the SMC COVID-19 tracker app. Thermal screening of international passengers will continue at the Ahmedabad and Surat airports.

Inter-state travellers are required to carry a negative RT-PCR test report issued no longer than 72 hours before arrival. They need to go through seven days of home quarantine and will be monitored for 14 days for signs of infection. Upon failing to provide a negative RT-PCR report, travellers to Vadodara will have to undergo home quarantine till their negative reports arrive. Domestic travellers are also expected to certify their health status through the Aarogya Setu app or a self-declaration form.

Surat Municipal Corporation will also be carrying out rapid antigen tests randomly. Airports in Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Kandla, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Surat will continue with thermal screenings of all domestic passengers.

Even with the drop in COVID-19 positive cases in the state with an average of 45 cases a week, all sight-seeing locations (except the shrines at Dwarka and Somnath) remain shut. However, hotels remain open.
