If Nepal has been on your winter bucket list for a while now and if bus journeys are something that you love, here’s your chance to make it happen. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to resume suspended bus services between Delhi and Kathmandu. By Karan Kaushik
The public transport operator of Delhi had suspended the bus services in wake of the pandemic with effect from March 23, 2020. In an official notification, the Delhi Transport Corporation has said that it has joined hands with Skyline India (Motors) Pvt Ltd for the smooth execution of the revived bus operation.
Here’s everything you need to know about the resumed Delhi-Kathmandu bus service
Popularly known as the Maitri Bus Sewa, the bus service resumed from Wednesday, 10:00 am. The notification mentioned that the bus service will be operational from Ambedkar Bus Terminal, also known as the Delhi Gate bus stand. The service will be resumed in accordance with the updated COVID-19 protocols and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

According to the revised guidelines, the bus for Kathmandu will leave on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. For the return journey, you’ll have to board the bus from Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.
Be prepared for a customs check at the India-Nepal border at Sonauli near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. Passengers will only be permitted to board the bus from the scheduled halts. The bus is scheduled to halt at Firozabad and Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. It will also halt at Nepal’s Mugling.
Passengers will also have to furnish their COVID vaccination certificates. They’ll also have to produce a negative RT-PCR test report, taken within 72 hours before the commencement of the journey. Anyone failing to submit the aforementioned documents will not be permitted to board the bus.
As far as the bus fares are concerned, the Delhi Transport Corporation has increased the fare from INR 2300 to INR 2800 per ticket.
