Germany‘s latest travel update is allowing travellers from India to finally enter the country, as long as they follow certain restrictions. By Naina Atri

On September 19, India was removed from Germany‘s list of high-risk areas. This means that the country is now allowing travellers from India to get entry into the country without having to submit a digital entry declaration, reports the German Missions in India’s website.

All passengers aged 12 and above will be allowed to enter Germany as long as they carry proof of either a negative COVID-19 test result or one of being fully vaccinated. The second (or final) vaccine dose has to be administered at least 14 days before departure to Germany, the guidelines state.

It is also important to note that travellers from India will also have to submit their passport number and/or date of birth— along with the certificate of receiving the second dose of Covishield—as the Aadhaar card number alone will not suffice. Further, Germany does not recognise Covaxin, so those inoculated with the vaccine will have to show proof of a negative RT-PCR test result taken not more than 72 hours before the flight.

Travellers may also provide proof of having recovered from COVID-19 by showing a positive PCR result taken any time between six months and 28 days before the flight to Germany, and must no longer show symptoms of the infection. This proof must be presented to the airline before departure, the guidelines state.

Since India is no longer deemed as a high-risk area, quarantine is not mandatory either. However, masks and strict rules on social distancing are still being enforced in Germany. According to Germany’s official travel website, those who are fully vaccinated and have tested negative on a COVID-19 test taken in the past 48 hours can enter indoor restaurants, festivals, accommodations and so on.

Germany has vaccinated over 60 per cent of their population, as reported by Reuters. However, as reported by the media house’s COVID-19 tracker, cases in the country are on the rise, with an average of 8,244 cases being reported on an average each day.
