United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) capital city, Abu Dhabi, is now offering free COVID-19 vaccines to tourists, reports Khaleej Times. Earlier, these vaccines were restricted only to the citizens of UAE.
According to Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), vaccines are available to visitors holding visas issued by Abu Dhabi and passport holders eligible for tourist visas upon their arrival. In order to get their COVID-19 shots, visitors are required to present these proofs at the vaccination centre. Holders of an expired residency or entry are eligible to get free vaccines, too, informs Abu Dhabi Media Office–as reported by Hindustan Times.
With more than 14.5 million shots provided to its population of about 10 million, UAE has one of the fastest COVID-19 vaccine rollouts in the world, according to the data collected by Bloomberg. UAE health authorities have said that nearly 85 per cent of its eligible population has received at least one vaccine dose this month, but they did not clarify how many had completed the vaccination process by receiving both the shots. SEHA is offering COVID-19 vaccines by China’s state-owned drugmaker Sinopharm and by Pfizer/BioNTech in Abu Dhabi, reports Independent.

In the past month, the number of infections rose in UAE, which resulted in the re-emergence of COVID-19 protocols upon entry— including home quarantine and PCR testing in intervals after arrival. Now, however, the country has opened its gate for travellers—without needing to quarantine—from 27 countries including USA, Germany and China, states ZAWYA.com
