Travellers from the UAE to Mumbai don’t need to quarantine

In response to the rising cases of the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai had tightened their COVID-19 protocols when it came to international travellers flying in from UAE, including Dubai. However, as of January 17, such passengers will now come under guidelines mandated for the list of ‘countries other than countries at-risk’, reports NDTV. Earlier, passengers from UAE, along with other countries considered high- and at-risk, had to take a rapid RT-PCR test and then a routine one if the results of the former were positive.

According to, Maharashtra on January 15, Saturday, recorded 42,462 new coronavirus infections, 749 less than the previous day, January 14. Based on reports by The Times of Indiathe pattern of cases in Mumbai of the Omicron variant likens that of South Africa – a steep increase in the number of cases, with few hospitalisations and relatively low use of oxygen support, followed by a sharp fall in cases. In Mumbai, the Omicron wave was seemingly at its peak from around December 21, 2021. Now, however, the curve seems to be flattening while vaccination numbers increase.

Earlier, when the Omicron scare had spread, those flying to Mumbai had been mandated to undergo a one-week quarantine. With this rule being revoked, travel is set to become smoother between the two nations.
