Scoot Airlines has announced that it has added three more Indian cities to the Non-VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane) list of flights between Singapore and India. By Naina Atri
In accordance with India’s Air Travel Arrangement with Singapore, which allows for commercial passenger services between the two countries, Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, announced that the airline will be resuming its flights from Trivandrum, Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam. The three cities are added to the list of Indian cities that the airline is already flying out from – Hyderabad, Tiruchirappalli and Amritsar. Flights from Trivanduram started from December 28, 2021, while Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam from 29 December 2021.
The flights with Scoot, however, are not part of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) and are deemed as Non-VTL flights, which still come under the Air Travel Arrangement, according to the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Therefore, passengers of Non-VTL flights are subject to quarantine measures as prescribed by the Government of Singapore, which includes a quarantine at their place of residence or a Stay At Home Notice Dedicated Facility. Travellers are also required to take a mandatory COVID-19 PCR test towards the end of their Stay-Home Notice (SHN). The incoming travellers have to bear the costs of their SHN. Details on what protocols passengers have to follow would also be available on the SafeTravel Pass, which is issued to travellers who are approved for entry into Singapore. The cost of a 10-day SHN stay is estimated to be typically USD 1,450 (INR 1,08,354) per person per room, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore.
Travellers are advised to keep track of developing government regulations, given the spread of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus. Singapore Airlines had previously announced that it would not be accepting bookings for all its flights under the VTL mechanism till January 20 next year, as reported by India.com.
