The latest country to be added to the list of nations India shares air bubble agreements with is Australia, as last week India signed an air travel agreement with the nation. Here’s what we know so far. By Anushka Goel

With the threat of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 looming over us, India had deferred the resumption of regular international flights indefinitely, operating flights only in the countries it has air bubble agreements with. Now, India has added another country to its list of nations where air travel bubbles operate, reports Mint.

Air bubble agreement between India and Australia

According to the latest travel updates, India has entered into an air bubble agreement with Australia, which will allow all eligible passengers to fly between the two countries. An air travel bubble allows the residents of the two countries that are in agreement to travel between the nations, as long as certain preset guidelines are met. These guidelines can differ for different countries.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, passengers can move between India and Australia as long as certain conditions are met. These conditions are:

From Australia to India

  • Nationals of India, Nepal, or Bhutan who are in Australia or New Zealand.
  • All Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders and PIO cardholders who possess passports of any country.
  • All foreign nationals with a valid Indian visa, as per the latest guidelines.

From India to Australia

  • Australian nationals/residents, and foreign nationals with a valid visa to enter Australia or New Zealand.
  • Indian nationals or nationals of Bhutan and Nepal, who are travelling to Australia or New Zealand and have a valid visa of their country of arrival.
  • Seamen of foreign nationalities and those with Indian passports, as long as they get clearance from the Ministry of Shipping.

With Australia joining the list, India now has air bubble agreements with 33 nations, which means that Indians can travel to these countries even as regular international flights remain shut, at least until January 31, reports India.com.
