Cambodia has lifted the travel ban on entry of visitors arriving from Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Iran, and the United States. The health ministry of the country had restricted entry of people from these nations amid pandemic fears. The move to reopen comes after both Cambodia and these six nations found success in curbing the spread of Coronavirus.

As of now, all foreign visitors travelling to Cambodia will be required to produce a certificate no more than 72-hours-old stating that they are not infected with the virus. Further, the ministry has made it mandatory for travellers to have active health insurance of $50,000 for the duration of their stay in Cambodia.

According to reports, Health Minister Mam Bunheng of Cambodia has said that all passengers, both native Cambodians as well as foreigners will be admitted to waiting for centres at the airport for COVID-19 tests upon arrival. The results will be made available in the interim by Pasteur laboratory at the earliest.

Travellers will also be quarantined for a mandatory 14 days, in their homes or booked hotel accommodation. Among the safety guidelines announced is also the clause that should one or more person arriving in a flight test positive, all persons on board will be isolated for two weeks.

All museums, archaeological sites, and tourist hotspots in Cambodia will be reopened for domestic and international visitors from June onwards, in a bid to revive the integral tourism industry, crucial to its economy.

The health and tourism ministry has joined hands, to warn people to beware of a possible ‘second wave’ of infections should the public ignore precautions. It will ensure the strict implementation of social distancing and personal hygiene especially after it lifts its lockdown and travel ban to welcome tourists.

The country has had remarkable success in controlling the spread of the virus as it currently has no active cases. The last person infected was cured and discharged last Saturday from the hospital. No new cases have been detected in the Southeast Asian nation in the last one month. It has so far reported a total of 122 cases and no deaths from the pandemic.
