Pet-lovers, unite! Soon, you’ll have another flight option to fly with your pooch. Akasa Air is set to allow pets onboard, starting November. Here are the details. By Anushka Goel

Travelling with pets can be a task. Planning an itinerary, checking the best travel modes (air, rail or road), booking tickets and finding hotels where they can stay with you, completing all formalities can take time. What’s more, when it comes to air travel, it’s only been a handful of airlines allowing pooches to travel with you via air – until now, that is.

Starting November, the newest airline in India, Akasa Air, is set to open travel for pets. Bookings for the same start on October 15.

The air carrier, which launched in August, is set to capture a new segment of travellers – those with pets. Bookings start October 15, and these flights will be available from November 1, according to reports. Till now, only a few airlines allowed pets on board, while some others carried them as cargo. Some others only allow guide and service dogs. So, travellers used to opt for rail and road travel to be with their pets during the vacations.

According to The Telegraph, Akasa Air will allow pets in the cabin and cargo hold. Akasa Air co-founder and Chief Marketing and Experience Officer Belson Coutinho stated that each pet will have to be in a cage, reports media. While for in-cabin pets the weight allowed is 7 kg, for check-in, the weight allowed will be 32 kg, he added.

The airline has been growing rapidly, and will have 18 new airplanes in its fleet by March 2023, reports state. Currently, the airlines has 30 daily flights, and will start services from Delhi on Friday, October 7.
