India is set to get Asia’s largest wildlife corridor. The corridor forms a huge chunk of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and is currently under construction.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be home to Asia’s largest wildlife corridor

This corridor is the longest elevated one in Asia with a length of 12 kilometres. It is currently under construction in the Rajaji National Park. On Saturday, August 27, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took to Twitter to share the news. This corridor will be aimed at protecting wildlife while allowing travel time to reduce massively.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will decrease travel time between the two cities from six hours to 2.5 hours. This is not all, this road will also allow Delhiites to reach Haridwar in just two hours. The expressway will connect Delhi’s Akshardham to Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, via cities including Saharanpur, Bhagpat, Shamli and Ghaziabad.

The last 20-kilometre stretch of this corridor passes through the eco-sensitive zone of Rajaji National Park. This is where work is currently on, and will include a 340 metre Daat Kali tunnel, constructed to protect surrounding wildlife, along with the elevated corridor.

The project is an important one, as it reduces the travel time between the capital and an an important city in North India, allowing travellers a quick getaway to places around Delhi, such as Mussoorie, Kanatal and more. This will also help boost tourism in the region among other things.
