Fiji Reopens To Vaccinated Visitors From India, Offers A Quarantine-Free Beach Vacation

A recent update by the High Commission of India, Fiji and Fiji Tourism states that the island nation has reopened to travellers from India, provided they are vaccinated. Certain entry conditions, including a pre-departure RT-PCR test and pre-paid itinerary, still apply. By Eshita Srinivas

With palm-lined beaches, scores of private islands with glittering waters, and luxurious resorts that feature spas and other extravagant features, Fiji is an oceanic paradise. The island nation opened up to vaccinated visitors from its Travel Partner Countries (TPC) on December 1 last year, with a host of entry conditions to ensure safe travel amidst the pandemic. On March 2, the High Commission of India, Suva, Fiji, stated in an update that India had been added to the TPC list, allowing vacationers from the subcontinent to enjoy quarantine-free travel in the South Pacific nation.

Tourism Fiji, the organisational leg of the Fijian government agency, stated that India was now a part of Fiji’s travel partner country list, which is updated by Fiji’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism, and Transport. This allows Indians to head to the island nation through the now open transit routes of Singapore and Australia. However, as per a news report by The Economic Times, travellers will need to take an RT-PCR test within two days of departure or a rapid test within 24 hours of departure to present to authorities as proof. Along with this, proof of vaccination will be required.

The official website of the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport, adds that all proofs must ideally be in English but a certified translated copy will be accepted as well. It added that a three-night pre-paid accommodation proof at a Care Fiji Commitment (CFC) certified property, along with transportation as well as travel insurance and proof of having stayed in a travel partner country for 14 consecutive days are mandatory. Those who fail to comply with these mandates might face a penalty.

While in Fiji, travellers may have to undergo random rapid tests upon arrival and spend a minimum of three nights at a CFC certified property exploring Safe Travel Areas (STA). Take a test on the second day of arrival, post which they are free to explore the island as a whole.

Fiji is now open for happiness!” He further added that all the staff were fully vaccinated, and the country’s tourism businesses have worked to ensure vacationers can enjoy their stay in the confidence of the highest standards of COVID-19 appropriate protocols being followed.
