Mexican artist Frida Kahlo has inspired painters with her intriguing self-portraits and surrealistic paintings for years. And now Chicago’s Cleve Carney Museum of Art is going to be next in line to adorn her artworks.
Post a year-long delay, the museum’s official website has decided to rename the Frida Kahlo 2020 exhibition as Frida Kahlo: Timeless, and open it for public viewing from June 5 to September 6, 2021. Understanding that Kahlo’s life cannot be understood in isolation, Frida Kahlo: Timeless will also delve into the realities of her time while giving an insider’s access to her world.
For this, the exhibition will feature 26 original works by the Mexican artist, along with providing guests with an immersive historical exhibit of her life, events and more. This includes reproduction of Kahlo’s clothings, more than 100 photographs of her life, a Frida Kahlo-inspired garden, and a family-friendly children’s area.

As a precursor to the actual—and for those who can’t attend in person—a series of online webseries have also been planned by the museum. This includes insightful presentations on how the Mexican revolution impacted her (and her contemporaries’) works; an examination of subjectivity, performativity and self-representation through her works; Kahlo’s influence on artists succeeding her and more.
As the exhibition has been rescheduled for 2021, the museum states that those with pre-purchased tickets from the earlier schedule need not buy tickets again. Instead, the tickets have been adjusted for dates corresponding to the new schedule. However, those who wish to buy tickets now can do so from the official website. While the Untimed Entry Tickets are priced at USD 35 (approximately INR 2,555), the timed ones—that is, ones where guests can book a particular date and time—are priced at USD 18 (approximately INR 1,320).
