One of India’s most popular art carnivals, Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is going online for its 2021 edition. However, the festival is expected to be like its regular version wherein attendees will find an array of exciting events to partake in. While the non-profit organisation, Kala Ghoda Association (KGA), ordinarily organises the on-ground Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, this year’s online version will be hosted on Insider from where guests will be able to attend the event virtually.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2021 will have a total of 70 programmes spread across the schedule. The line-up and events scheduled for this year are pretty interesting. Apart from workshops, demonstrations, and discussions on music and dance, the festival will also host several book launches; and many music, dance, literature, theatre and visual arts performances.

The festival will also double as a platform for displaying artworks that depict the heritage of Mumbai. To ensure attendees do not miss out on the festival’s on-ground vibes, the stalls will also display their wares online throughout the festival. If guests like any piece of work, they can buy it online.

Notably, the first edition of this festival took place in 1999 and has since become Mumbai’s annual favourite. The Kala Ghoda district in Fort, Mumbai plays the hosting ground for this festival. The name of the festival itself refers to a black stone statue of King Edward VII (the then Prince of Wales), which was once placed in this area of the city. The statue, however, was removed in 1965 and now adorns a spot in the Byculla Zoo, instead. But today, a similar-looking horse statue without a rider, titled Spirit of Kala Ghoda, graces the festival ground, instead.

This year’s festival will take place from February 6 to February 14, 2021.
