On July 30 and 31 this year, Bangkok will host the North East India Festival. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to share the news on July 19, adding that the festival will celebrate 75 years of ties between India and Thailand.

North East India Festival: What we know till now

The festival is set to showcase the North East and its uniqueness to the world, while opening avenues to explore this paradise in India, the minister wrote in his tweet. The festival, with the theme of ‘Connecting People Celebrating Culture’, is among the largest initiatives of North East India. To be held at the Central World Complex in Bangkok, the festival celebrates the diversity of region. Apart from celebrating the music, dance, fashion, cultures, craft and more from the region, this festival will also aim at focussing on promoting the area as a place for tourism and investment activities.

India and Thailand have had friendly relations for 75 years now, sharing a common marine boundary and several cultural linkages, such as Buddhism. Several Hindu elements are found in the structures across Thailand, and tourists from the country visit India for activities such as pilgrimage. What’s more, Thai language has elements of Pali and Sanskrit, which is also showcased through the various names and places in the nation. Events such as this festival only work towards strengthening these linkages.
