In a first, Phuket’s iconic Governor’s Mansion has been listed on Airbnb, as part of a special ongoing collaboration between the brand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to celebrate Songkran. Know the details here! By Anushka Goel
For the first time in over 50 years, the palatial Governor’s Mansion in Phuket, Thailand, is set to open its doors for an overnight stay. The stay is being planned to celebrate the Thai New Year, Songkran, and welcome international travellers back to the country, a press release by Airbnb informs.
Renowned for its magnificent beaches and rich cultural heritage, Phuket has attracted millions of travellers from around the world. Now, the island is preparing for Thailand’s long-anticipated travel rebound, and as the country gears up for its biggest cultural festival, Songkran, one group of four lucky guests will get to soak up the vibrant festivities with an island getaway at the of a lifetime.
Stay at the Governor’s Mansion, Phuket, only on Airbnb
You can book a two-night stay at the majestic mansion from April 15-17, 2022, at just USD 50 (INR 3,795). The bookings will open at 9:00 pm ET on April 4 (6:30 am IST on April 5), and anyone across the globe can apply.
You’ll be hosted at the mansion by popular Phuket-born model-actress Patricia Tanchanok Good (from Netflix’s popular drama, Girl From Nowhere 2), and national ambassador for royal Thai cuisine and Blue Elephant founder, master chef Nooror Somany Steppe. The planning for the stay has been supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
The house has welcomed several out-of-town dignitaries in the past and is one of the several neoclassical heritage mansions in Phuket. Built in hues of mustard and white, the house has been restored to preserve its original fixtures, including the richly patterned tiles and teakwood floors. The first floor houses Blue Elephant restaurant, while on the second floor, renowned Thai designer Saran Yen Panya has created a memorable, visually stunning space that pays homage to Thailand’s rich heritage and buzzing contemporary design scene.
Guests will be able to enjoy the best of the Phuketian experience and celebrate Songkran during their stay. They’ll be personally welcomed at check-in by the Thai superstar, who will share her favourite hidden gems in Phuket and tips for exploring the island. Guests will also have access to a two-bedroom suite on the second floor, including a private reception lounge and living room. Their second host, Chef Nooror, will pamper them with a bespoke, multi-course ‘Songkran’ tasting menu. What’s more, guests will indulge in a scuba diving and snorkelling adventure around the sparkling reefs and islands, and go for a gibbon rehabilitation social impact experience in Phuket’s last rainforest, Khao Pra Taew Wildlife Sanctuary.
