Palace on Wheels, one of India’s most luxurious trains, is likely to hit the tracks this September. According to Economic Times, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) Chairman Dharmendra Rathore stated that the state government and the Tourism Development Corporation are keen to bring back the train, on a public-private partnership. Meetings for this are in full swing, the report adds.

Palace on Wheels has been taking passengers on breathtaking journeys across India, but its Rajasthan routes remain the most popular. The state plans to capitalise on this popularity to boost Rajasthan as a travel destination for one and for all. According to ET, The RTDC Chairman made these announcements in a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR) in Jaipur’s Paryatan Bhawan recently.

The luxury Palace on Wheels has been in India since 1982 by the RTDC, in association with the Indian Railways. The train, inspired by the maharajas and erstwhile rulers, provides passengers with the utmost comfort in stays, dining and more, against the scenic backdrops of India’s rich heritage. The coaches in the train feature several chambers, decorated to depict a ruler’s lifestyle, making you feel like a royal.

The train had been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic over the last couple of years. Now, as tourism fully reopens across the country, the RTDC is planning to get it back on track, to attract visitors and boost travel to Rajasthan.
