If you’re in Puducherry or planning on visiting next week, your weekend trips to the beach may have just gotten better. The tourism department is planning the Puducherry Beach Festival, targetting visitors to boost tourism. Here’s what we know about the same. By Anushka Goel
Puducherry is set to host a four-day beach festival, called ‘I Sea Pondy 2022’. Organised across four venues — Gandhi statue beach promenade, Chunnambar water sports complex, Pondy Marina and Paradise beach — the event is a four-day celebration from April 13-16, reports The Indian Express.

Announcing the upcoming event at a press conference, Minister for Public Works K. Lakshminarayanan said that the festival will have events such as a fashion show, sky lantern display, live band performances, kite flying, silambam and uriyadi events, violin concert, a volleyball tournament, folklore music and dance, cine orchestra, bubble show, catamaran race, puppet show, gymnastics and more. What’s more, the four venues will be lit up by a seafood festival, reports The Hindu. On April 14, a bicycle marathon will also be organised, from Kalapet to Puducherry.
Puducherry is among the most popular vacation destinations, attracting crowds of all generations for its beaches, clean and pristine roads, French colonial architecture and more, including the nearby Auroville. The Union Territory is gearing up to host several such events in the future, to boost tourism and make peoples’ visits more enjoyable. With the COVID-19 pandemic receding slowly, many people are leaving their homes and travelling (or going on a workation). There’s no better reason to step out in the summer heat than to cool off at a beach, and the UT’s government is leaving no chances to attract visitors and make the most of their time and travel dates.
