Goa is a land filled with beautiful beaches, pristine waterfalls, low-lying hills and lush greenery. This makes it a great contender for environment-based tourism, and soon, the forests in Goa are set to be developed as ecotourism spots. By Anushka Goel
On Friday, Goa state minister Vishwajit Rane took to Twitter to share that the state is set to give a push to the development of ecotourism in its forest areas and national parks. Goa is known for its varied natural landscape, and many off-beat travellers visit the state to explore hidden gems, spice gardens, scale the small hills here and go on hikes and treks to its many waterfalls and forest areas.

Following discussions with Forest Dept officers, we have decided to give thrust to dev. of forest eco-tourism within forest areas & forest parks. We will improve infrastructure of Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, build camping areas, jungle trails, etc,.

According to Times of India, the new redevelopment plans will focus on giving a wholesome wildlife experience to visitors, which includes witnessing the wild flora and fauna in the region. These thick forest covers are part of the Goan hinterland and are abundant with plant, animal and amphibian species which thrive away from the bustling cities and towns.
Elaborating on the decision of developing Goa as an ecotourism spot, Rane had tweeted, “Following discussions with forest dept officers, we have decided to give thrust to development of forest eco-tourism within forest areas and forest parks. We will improve infrastructure of Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, build camping areas, jungle trails etc (sic),” adding that the activities will be carried out with expert guidance to ensure that people become more interested in visiting these parks.
The areas identified for the project include the wildlife and forest destinations such as Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Molem Wildlife Sanctuary and Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, along with the state’s only national park, Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. Apart from developing these areas (and more), there will be focus on creating camping destinations, jungle trails and more, the minister stated in his tweet.
