With the pandemic receding and cities across India loosening restrictions, several events had been put on hold due to the scare of the virus’ spread. However, with booster shots being administered and much greater confidence in people about stepping out, the best events across the country are back. One of India’s biggest celebrations of art, the India Art Fair is back in the national capital and is inviting visitors from far and wide to witness the visual displays. The event brings together artists, institutions, connoisseurs and collectors under one roof, and celebrates modern-day South Asia, placing the art and artist at its core. This year’s edition has over 70 exhibitors across various categories/galleries.

When: April 28 to May 1, 2022

Jazz Weekender, Delhi NCR

April 30 marks International Jazz Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate the music than with a Jazz weekender, right in the heart of Delhi! Online radio station and music discovery platform boxout.fm presents Jazz Weekender, a three-day festival showcasing some of the genre’s most exciting Indian and international artists. The lineup includes some amazing music artists who crossover into several genres such as R&B, neo-soul, fusion, electronic, funk and more. Book your tickets and revel in the music of artists such as Triorität, Boi Akih, drummer Gino Banks and guitarist Rhythm Shaw, Tribemama Marykali, bands Four + 1, Pakshee, The Jass B’stards, The Revisit Project and T.ill Apes, and guitarist Raj.

Devadaasyam, Thrissur, Kerala

Devadaasyam is a festival that is organised by the Salabhanjika Studio for Arts and Performances. The event, organised in Thrissur and Hyderabad, is committed to preserving and protecting traditional art forms and cultural rituals, while introducing them to the younger generations through workshopsm seminars and performances.

When: May 3 to May 4, 2022

Utopian Dystopia, Kochi, Kerala

Among the many events in May is Utopian Dystopia, a ten-day Kochi-based festival that is set to provide a platform for over 100 artists, designers and engineers to blend art, design and technology into one space. The festival, set to be hosted every two years, will highlight how the three disciplines complement each other, through talks, panel discussions, workshops and more.

When: May 19 to May 28, 2022

Pratibimb Marathi Natya Utsav, Mumbai, Maharashtra

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA)’s annual Marathi theatre festival, Pratibimb Marathi Natya Utsav, reflects the vibrant theatre culture of Maharashtra. Plays, readings, talks and more present the thought-provoking themes in a new light through the three-day celebrations. Watch Adhyaat Me Sadhyaat Tu Madyaat Ma Kuni Nahi from the Maharashtra Cultural Centre, Pune and Mumbaiche Kawale from Awishkar; the lavani showcase Sangeet Devbabhali by Kali Billi Productions; the dramatic reading Aparichit PuLa, conceptualised and directed by Chandrakant Kale; and a conversation between Satish Alekar, Kale and Vijay Kenkre.
