Uttarakhand Opens 30 New Peaks And 10 Treks For Travellers
According to a report published in The Times of India Most of the new peaks are above 6,000m. Some of the most popular among the 30 new peaks include Rishi Pahar, Devtoli, Garur Parbat, Manda II, Manda III, Avalanche, Rishi Kot, Kali Dhang, and Bhirgu Parbat.
The Uttarakhand government has also opened 10 new exciting trekking routes. These are Nanda Lapak, Pawagarh, Bhagnyu, Ratangarian, Yan Buk, Mahalay Parbat, Lamchir, LamchirT South, Nar Parbat, and Narayan Parbat.
The decision to open the new peaks and trekking trails comes as a part of the central government’s plan to open up 137 Himalayan peaks across the country. In August 2019, the Indian government decided that new peaks will be opened in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir.

The union government had shared a proposal with the Uttarakhand government, wherein it was suggested that 51 new peaks and treks should be opened in the state. However, the state government decided to keep 11 peaks inaccessible to climbers. This has been done keeping the security of the country and ecological balance in mind.
Climbers will have to deposit a sum of INR 10,000 per team. This money will be returned to them if they are able to maintain the tidiness of the place. The opening of these new peaks and trekking routes will also give a much-needed boost to the local economy. It will support the livelihood of the people of Uttarakhand. Local eco-development committees will design the travel maps for these trekking routes and mountaineering expeditions.
