If you’ve always fancied having a unique home, here’s your chance. The world’s skinniest skyscraper, located in New York, is here to make this dream come true! By Anushka Goel

Adding to Manhattan’s skyline, one of the tallest buildings in New York City is now open. What makes it interesting and intriguing is the fact that it is the world’s skinniest skyscraper, according to CNN, and it is now accepting residents!

World’s skinniest skyscraper: What you need to know

At 1,428 feet, the skyscraper falls short just of two buildings in New York City – One World Trade Center at 1,776 feet and Central Park Tower at 1,550 feet, writes CNN. The Steinway Tower (i.e. 111 West 57th Street), is an 84-story building that sits on Billionaires’ Row in midtown Manhattan, writes Daily Mail. The building, though among the tallest, is just 57 feet wide.

The tower has been designed by SHoP Architects, writes MoneyControl. Talking about the project, the developers told media, “A façade of terra cotta, glass, and bronze filigree bring back the quality, materiality and details of historic New York towers while taking advantage of the latest technology to push the limits of engineering and fabrication.” The building is designed to contribute elegantly to the city’s shared skyline, and its stunning (and skinny) structure is a testimony to the same.

The world’s skinniest skyscraper overlooks Central Park, and has about 60 apartments, writes Daily Mail. These start at USD 7.75 million (INR 58,85,64,838) for a studio unit, scaling up to USD 66 million  (INR 5,01,22,94,100) for the penthouse.

While the new addition is a beautiful addition to New York City, skinny skyscrapers are not a new phenomenon. These ‘pencil towers’ became popular in Hong Kong in the 1970s, after which several cities added them to their skylines.
