A book, penned by American Chef Anthony Bourdain, will be released posthumously later this year wherein the author has detailed his favourite destinations, how to get there, what to eat there, and more. By Bayar Jain
Months before his death in October 2018, American celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain had penned a part-memoir, part-travel guide. Following his demise, his longtime assistant and Appetites co-author Laurie Woolever finished the travel guide. Titled World Travel: An Irreverent Guide, this posthumously published book will take readers on a journey through the late chef’s favourite places such as Buenos Aires, Oman, Borneo, Paris, Shanghai, and his hometown of New York. The hardcover variant of the same will also feature essays by Bourdain’s relatives, friends and colleagues, including legendary music producer Steve Albini’s guide to Chicago’s cheap eats. The book features contributions by various chefs, journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and writers inspired by Bourdain, including Barack Obama, Eric Ripert, Jill Filipovic, Ken Burns, Questlove, and José Andrés.
Each chapter of this book will also include illustrations by Maakies and Sock Monkey’s cartoonist, Tony Millionaire. In this cover, Millionaire has created an illustration wherein Bourdain can be seen sipping on coffee at a Parisian Café.
Bourdain rose to fame in 2000 with his book Kitchen Confidential: Adventure in the Culinary Belly. Since then, he went onto travel the world, and work with some of the best in the business. He also created several documentaries along the way, such as No Reservations and A Cook’s Tour. He committed suicide at 85 while filming an episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in France. This book, slated to release later this year in October, comes almost a year after the book, Anthony Bourdain Remembered, in which CNN compiled tributes and photographs honoring the late chef.
The book is currently available for pre-order here.
