Mount Everest Is A Tad Bit Taller Now; By 86 Centimeters To Be Precise!

The world’s tallest peak — Mount Everest — that many trekkers around the globe dream to conquer one day has grown a tad bit taller! While the earlier height of Mount Everest was measured at 8,848 m, after a recent survey, it’s height now appears to be 8,848.86 m. Which means, an addition of 86 cms in its height has been recorded. Nepal and China, the two countries that share the mighty Mount Everest on their border have recently revealed the updated height of the mountain, after a re-measurement drive. In the past, it has been noted that both countries have been slightly obscure about the actual height of Mount Everest. While previously Nepal pronounced that the mountain stands at 8,848 m height, China declared it to be 8,844 m.

However, for the first time ever, both countries have zeroed down upon the same calculation. China and Nepal have collectively concluded that Mount Everest is now 8,848.86 m tall. In fact, it was Nepal who initiated the re-measuring process after several geologists raised concerns about the peak’s altered height post the devastating earthquake of 2015.

The geologists who conducted the survey claimed this to be one of the most thorough surveys of the summit ever. The latest and the best technology have been used to cull out the most accurate measurement. These new figures have come after six decades — post India’s measurement survey back in 1954. Now that Nepal and China have officially agreed on the height, they also stated that the summit stands as a symbol of eternal friendship between the two nations.
