Sumeet Vyas is one of the reasons we’re glued to YouTube. Back in 2012, he made us sit up and take notice with his role in English Vinglish, but it was his portrayal of the character Mikesh Chaudhary in TVF’s Permanent Roommates that turned him into a real Internet phenomenon.
Besides acting, he also writes scripts for TVF and his latest project, Tripling (in which he also plays the eldest sibling, Chandan), has only recently concluded. “I have severe grandpa traits,” he says, “I love telling stories and being a part of them.” He has penned the outrageously funny dialogues of YouTube cult, Bang Baaja Baaraat, and is now contemplating writing a musical.
Is there anything the man can’t do? We meet him at Jamjar Diner in Mumbai and find out.
A person who has been a great influence in your professional life?
Nadira Zaheer Babbar is my teacher and mentor in life. Everything that I know about acting is because of her.
One thing people don’t know about you?
I can play percussion. I am also passionate about bikes and often take road trips. Not many know this, but I am a bit of an OCD with cleanliness.
One thing you love about starring in a web series and one thing you don’t?
I love the freedom to create, but the small envelope of payment is a disadvantage.
A fan moment you can’t forget?
I once met a sweet girl at the airport. Even after taking a picture with me, she refused to let go of my hand. It got a little awkward, but luckily her friends came to my rescue. My friends were on my case through that evening.
Your favourite cities?
