Just when you think you’ve seen it all, new mysteries rise up (literally) that make you sit up and take note of new information from times unknown. The most recent one being the discovery of an ancient Shiva temple in Andhra Pradesh. Here’s what we know. By Amitha Ameen

India has always been a land full of mysteries. To correlate this fact, a 200-year old ancient Shiva temple, buried under sand, was unearthed by villagers in the Nellore region of Andhra Pradesh, recently. The temple, which was previously a well-known establishment, was submerged under sand almost 80 years ago, according to the villagers in the area.
While villagers were mining sand from the Penna river near Peramalla Padu village in Chejarla Mandal, the top of the temple was revealed, and soon after villagers and locals came together to retrieve the temple from the bottom of the river bed.

According to some reports, the River Penna had changed its course over the years, owing to the temple getting buried underneath. Ramasubba Reddy, Archaeology Assistant Director told the Hindu that the temple could have submerged during the 1850’s floods that occurred in the region but a detailed examination of the site will be required to understand more about the history of the structure.
Meanwhile, some locals believe that the temple is a part of the 101 temples built by Parashurama who was an ardent worshipper of Lord Shiva. Whatever the truth is we cannot wait to find out more about the history and background of this ancient monument that has managed to withstand the test of time.
