As lockdown restrictions continue to ease around the world, many business establishments have been incorporating innovative and quirky methods to ensure social distancing. Similar to Cafe Rothe in Germany, 59 Rivoli, an art gallery in Paris is using colourful paper hats with wing extensions to incorporate social distancing amongst visitors.
The hats are inspired by the Song Dynasty of China who used these types of hats between 960 and 1279, ordered by the then emperor to ensure his courtesans would not be able to gossip without being heard.

Designed by Dominique Pouzol, the wings in these hats will ensure the wearers maintain distance and prevent the spread of the deadly virus. The funky hats are made using cardboard, wire, acrylic paints, and paper. What’s more, is that some of these hats even carry important social and political messages.

59 Rivoli that reopened its doors on June 5 is part studio part gallery, plays an important role in Paris’s underground culture. Situated on one of the busiest shopping streets in Paris, the art gallery can be spotted from a mile away.
Lockdown in Paris has eased after the Coronavirus cases saw a decrease in the count, with the country being the ninth highest in total numbers in the world.
