The Athirappilly Falls originating from the Chalakudy river is one of Thrissur’s finest gems located 1,000-ft above sea level. It sits along with the Sholayar ranges in the Western Ghats, making it a sight to behold. You can enjoy the calming water and colossal forests, all at once. Apart from being a tropical delight, the waterfall’s gushing drop helps in generating hydroelectric energy, too.

The waterfall is open for public viewing throughout the year. With additional tickets, you can also use your camera to freeze your favourite moments. The heartwarming view attracts many locals for weekend picnics. The area is pristine and plastic-free as per the regulations of the Kerala Government.

During your visit, you can also check out several nearby attractions.

Thumboormuzhi Dam and Garden

This picturesque garden sits on a patch of forest land adjoining the waterfalls. It is an idyllic spot where you can cherish some quiet moments to yourself. The location is also a natural habitat for many butterflies and hence you will be able to spot some unique ones here.

The butterflies have encouraged authorities to plant exotic flowers for their feeding. The prevailing silence in the area will help you break away from daily life’s chaos, and you will find yourself closer to nature and in solitude. Here, you will also find a kids’ park, washroom and parking facilities, and even a DTPC owned restaurant to grab some quick bites.

On your way to Athirapally, approximately nine-km away, stop at this water theme park for a fun family adventure break. They have many amusement rides along with delicious food offerings. It is an eventful place to have a fun day out with your kids.

Reach

Kochi International Airport is the closest to Athirappilly. You can book a taxi from here to reach your final destination.

Chalakudy is the closest railway station. There are regular bus services plying from Cochin, Thrissur city and Chalakudy, too.

The best time to visit Athirappilly is during the monsoons.
