Exploring The Best Breweries Of Germany: The Beer Country!

Raise that glass up high and say ‘Prost’ as we take you through some of the best breweries of the beer country. Beer in Germany is more than just a beverage. It exemplifies centuries of tradition and culture that have revolved around beer-making. More than just tasting some of the best brews Germany has on offer, go behind the scenes and find out the craft behind beer-making that Germany holds dear to its history and legacy. Here are some of the best breweries in Germany that you must not miss out if you’re on a mission to find out the best of the lot. By Shubhanjana Das

1. Rothaus

Rothaus is situated deep in the heart of Germany’s Black Forest, holding claim to be the highest brewery in Germany in terms of altitude. Utilising thermal energy and a carbon neutral approach, the brewery uses a wood chip plant. While their brews have been around since 1791, the unmissable Tannenzäpfle has been in production since 1956.

2. Weihenstephan

Weihenstephan’s history in beer-brewing goes back to 725. Founded as the Weihenstephan Benedictine Alley, this monastery is now the oldest continually producing brewery in all of the world, brewing since 1040. It’s specialities include pale lagers and wheat beers.

3. Köstritzer

Arguably the most famous beer in Germany, Köstritzer is a proud produce of Schwarzbier or black beer. A little legend behind it says that even Goethe himself sustained solely on this ale when he was unable to consume food due to illness. Schwarzbier is one of Germany’s best and biggest exports holding a rich history of Germany during the Cold War.

4. Riedenburger Brauhaus

Germany’s valleys are home to some of the most popular and aesthetic breweries such as the Riedenburger Brauhaus, which has been in business since 1866 in the Altmühl Valley. Unlike its more traditional counterparts, Riedenburger’s craftsmanship in beer-brewing comes to life in its citrusy hops and lime, and orange and tangerine flavours besides the specialty beers made from einkorn, emmer and spelt.

5. Allgäuer Brauerei

The Alpine region of Allgäuin Bavaria is home to one of Germany’s most classic brews. The famous Buble Bier at the 600-year old Allgäuer Brauerei is an experience worth having for every beer-connoisseur. Take a trip of the brewery in a hot-air balloon to take in the idyllic scenery of the Austrian Alps while tasting their brews, which range in both light and dark varieties.
