Festive hues of red, green and white and joy-filled air — all these are signs that it’s Christmas in the Czech Republic. Festive celebrations in the country are not just confined to one or two days but start from November and continue till after the New Year. Apart from months of celebrations, what else makes festivities magical here are advent traditions, band performances, theatres for children and adults, parades, and various other winter activities for kids.
Doesn’t matter if you are a local or a tourist in the country, Christmas brings everybody together from across cities like Brno, Olomouc, Plzen and Prague. Cultural programmes, Christmas-themed souvenirs, Christmas gastronomic specialities or mulled wine, the country has something for everyone.

Another city, Olomouc, is worth the visit for its traditional Christmas markets in the historic centre giving you a site of some contemporary attractions on display, and performances by popular bands from different genres. The punch town on the Upper Square of Olomouc draws tourists with its aroma of hot punch and a variety of spices, sweet and bitter.
Thirdly, there is the city of Plzen where the Republic Square gives you a vibrant vibe of Christmas. Take the special guided Advent tour in the centre of Plzeň for tales of regional Christmas customs and traditions. If you want to attend concerts, The Gothic St Bartholomew’s Cathedral is the place to be. From here you can also enjoy an exhilarating view of the city decorated with Christmas lights.
