Destination Weddings And How!

Sun-kissed courtyards, quaint Baoli entrances, breathtaking ocean views, exotic perfumed gardens—Madhulika Mathur of Wedding Sutra finds that couples are raising the bar by choosing dreamy spa resorts for destination weddings.

Last week, I was talking to a newly engaged couple that was only interested in an international destination. We got talking about flight connectivity but then I realised, direct flights was the last thing on their minds, “We don’t mind travelling any distance. All we want is a picturesque setting, preferably a spa resort away from the crowds where we can spend quality time with family.” And options are aplenty. Here’s a list.

Four Seasons Resort
Koh Samui

Under a canopy of sky, surrounded by the endless blue of the mystical Gulf of Siam, and a private bay on the northwest coast of Koh Samui, Four Seasons is an escape with palm-shaded hillside grounds and coconut groves, and tropical gardens. Home to 74 villas and residences, with chic al fresco living spaces, private infinity pools, and an astonishing panoramic view of Laem Yai Bay—the island of Pha Ngan and the Gulf of Siam. The resort offers beautiful spaces including banquets, gardens, and terraces for your ceremonies but our favourite is the resort’s secluded cove where fine sand and magical sunsets make for a perfect setting for intimate wedding ceremonies.

Ritz-Carlton Phulay Bay
Krabi

The stunning hotel featured in The Hangover Part 2 movie for the wedding was shot here at Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton in Krabi! Phulay Bay is a secluded resort surrounded by beautiful beaches, coral reefs, jungles, and enchanting waterfalls. This breathtaking luxury reserve features 54 one-bedroom pavilions and villas with private plunge pools, sheltered outdoor baths and showers, and unspoilt views of the ocean. If that isn’t indulgent enough, the ESPA spa, with stepping-stones meandering between beautiful teak walkways and relaxation terraces is surrounded by vegetation and dotted with reflection ponds.

Weddings here are exquisite celebrations surrounded by lotus, orchids, and candles in Phulay Bay’s Thai Pavilion, a magical and traditional private setting. Think traditional Thai music, a spectacular release of colourful butterflies, seaside celebratory reception under a canopy of stars, an elaborate fireworks show followed by a release of illuminated Thai sky lanterns floating out to sea.

Le Touessrok
Mauritius

Le Touessrok lies on a beautiful stretch of sandy coast with magnificent views of the tranquil Trou d’Eau Douce Bay for your wedding backdrop. This is a breathtaking lagoon island with lush landscaped gardens and an exclusive Givenchy spa. A nuptial ceremony here is nothing short of exquisite. Charming rooms, suites, and villas are prepared for to-be-weds and their bridal parties and every need is understood and indulged. With its nine restaurants and bars including two that serve Indian cuisine, Le Touessrok offers a wonderful variety of different dining experiences. Weddings can be hosted in the exquisite Wedding Pavilion in the Hibiscus Garden, on the resort’s beaches and gardens, and even on the exotic Ilot Mangénie or at the Golf Course Clubhouse on Ile aux Cerfs.

Vivanta By Taj
 Surajkund

Vivanta by Taj—Surajkund is set amidst the Aravallis range, and very close to New Delhi, although you don’t feel the city at all. With 287 rooms and suites, vast banqueting facilities, a 18,500 square feet indulgent and much lauded Jiva Grande Spa with a baoli entrance, sun-kissed courtyards, gurgling aqua bodies and edge of the plate provincial cuisine, it makes for the perfect setting for a destination wedding. The hotel has a thematic Bridal suite curated by one of the country’s haute nouveau designers, Little Shilpa. Moreover, the Bliss suite and the Indulgence room take the Jiva Grande Spa experience right into the room.
