Get ready for a spooky adventure because the world’s first-ever drive–in haunted house has opened in Japan, to take you on a bone-chilling drive. How you may ask? A voice-over narrating ghost stories, coupled with a crackling sound of a radio, a pleading woman on the side of the window, and some zombies to leave blood-stained handprints on your car. If this is not horrifying enough for you, then we don’t know what is.
The 15-minute drive–in horror show, which is the brainchild of a production company called Kowagarasetai — ‘Scare Squad’ — is being held in a garage in a nondescript building located in Minato, Tokyo’s Higashiazabu district.

However, according to producer Kenta Iwana, no compromise has been made on the safety of both the visitors as well as the actors, with measures such as no direct contact between guests and staff, sterilised hands and cars and proper cleaning after every performance.
Moreover, in order to avoid a crowd, only one car is allowed at a time, at an approximate cost of INR 5,600 for the whole show.
Meanwhile, giving an idea of what’s in store for horror enthusiasts, a report by Reuters had mentioned, “Audience members will drive into a garage in Tokyo, one car at a time, and listen to a murder story and sound effects blared out of speakers, as actors dressed as monsters bang on the side of the vehicle and spray fake blood over the windows.”

Further adding to the thrill, as per a CNN report, “Visitors turn off the engine and the garage shutter closes, plunging the vehicle into total darkness. Drivers receive a set of Bluetooth speakers and the spooky tale begins. ‘Around these parts, there’s a legend that the ghosts attack humans. Honk your horn three times if you want to hear more’, says the voice from the speaker, in Japanese. For the next 17 minutes, blood-soaked ghouls and zombies press up against the windows and rock the car.”
