Undoubtedly one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, to say that the Eiffel Tower has withstood the test of time would be an understatement. But thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, one of the most-visited sites had to be closed down for a whole three months, the longest since as far back as World War II.

Weighing a whopping 10-tonne and completed in 1889, the Tower attracts tourists from all parts of the world, with a reported seven million visitors each year. And, now the Eiffel Tower is all set to reopen for the public on June 25.

According to an advisory on the site’s official website, “The Eiffel Tower will open on June 25 for stair visits only, initially. In order to welcome the public again in the best conditions, sanitary measures are put in place, in particular the wearing of the compulsory mask. Internet ticket sales will open in a few days.”

Visitors will be allowed to enter through the East pillar and exit through the West pillar so as to not meet each other and risk transmission of the virus. Special markings and signage, daily disinfecting and cleaning and a limited entry per day are some of the factors that will come into play once the tower is open for viewing.

On when the entry to the top of the tower will resume, “The summit remains closed for the time being to avoid any situation of confinement in the elevators leading from the 2nd floor to the summit, which is smaller. It will welcome the public again during the summer,” said the press release.

Tourism in France, one of the most visited countries in the world, has taken a hit owing to the global pandemic outbreak. France had gone into a strict lockdown for two months, ordering for the closure of hotels, museums, restaurants, and other public places.
