As Switzerland eased its COVID-19 restrictions from June 26 onwards, the government’s Federal Council of Public Health has informed that fully vaccinated Indian visitors will also be allowed entry into the country without needing to present negative COVID-19 test reports or quarantining, according to ANI. But it should be noted that even if the country does not require negative RT-PCR results, a few airlines might.

According to the report, the Swiss government issued a statement saying, “persons who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from the disease will be permitted to enter Switzerland from these countries or regions without having to be tested or to quarantine, as long as it is certain that the vaccination offers good protection. Those who have neither been vaccinated nor have recovered must present a negative PCR test or rapid antigen test and go into quarantine on entry.” In the case of India, the primary concern is the Delta Plus variant of the Coronavirus.

The press release further states, “in practice, this means that persons who have been vaccinated or who have recovered, do not have to produce a negative test even when travelling from countries where the Delta variant is widespread (such as India or the United Kingdom) and do not have to quarantine on entry. The vaccines used in Switzerland are only slightly less effective against the Delta variant and thus, still offer a very high level of protection.” Notably, Indians vaccinated with Covishield will be allowed entry into the country since it is a WHO-approved vaccine.

Currently, the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi is accepting all visa categories for people arriving from third countries who can present proof of completing the vaccination process.

Hiking is a great COVID-19-friendly way to explore the country’s scenic terrains. Some of the locations suitable for this activity include Ascona, Lake Saint Moritz, Locarno, Geneva, Rheinfelden and Zürich.

With the aid of the country’s excellent transport system, travellers can also drive through the Swiss Alps and treat themselves to the stunning landscape that the Alps have to offer. The public transport services are currently running in strict compliance with safety protocols—always wearing face masks being one.

And if you are an adrenaline junkie, Switzerland offers plenty of thrilling activities like paddle-boarding, kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, and the famous sky dining.
