After having no active cases of COVID-19 since May 29, 2020, French Polynesia has announced that it is all set to reopen borders for international tourism starting July 15. This new phase of rebound tourism in French Polynesia will come with a new set of rules and regulations. While the quarantine measures in Tahiti, Mo’orea and Bora Bora will be lifted, visitors from only Europe and USA will be allowed to come in for the time being.

Apart from these conditions, all travellers must take a test within 72 hours of their departure to the island. They also need to have travel insurance with full coverage. Before boarding the flight, travellers would require furnishing a medical certificate confirming their Corona negative status. Those who have already recovered would need to present an immunity certificate saying that they have recovered from the disease. Upon reaching the country, the visitor will be required to present a complete itinerary along with details of inter-island transport and accommodation. Travellers may also need to undergo testing during their stay.

As reported by Travel Daily Media, Jean Marc Mocellin, CEO of Tahiti Tourisme, said, “COVID-19 has disrupted our lives, changing everything we thought we could rely on and leaving us physically and emotionally disconnected from nature, each other and our sense of place in the world. Our insights show that people are looking for more than a holiday; they want to feel certain about the world again. The Islands of Tahiti is well placed to deliver on that promise.”
While French Polynesia is reopening its borders, its 118 islands and atolls await those who’re looking forward to spending some heavenly time in the country. Those who cannot, can still manage to savour a slice of the beauty through virtual tours.
