Ocean cruisers get to go on months-long around-the-world cruises, but river cruises? Well, they’re usually limited to sailings that last a week or two. By Stefanie Waldek

But not anymore. River cruise lines have been devising new itineraries that river hop across countries and sometimes even continents. Case in point: Uniworld’s new “Rivers of the World” cruise.

The Rivers of the World Cruise itinerary

Setting sail on May 20, 2023, the 46-night journey brings passengers to nine countries aboard five different ships. (Yes, there are some transfers involved, as well as a few land stays in hotels.)

The epic adventure begins with a two-night land stay in Egypt, after which guests will spend a week sailing the Nile aboard the S.S. Sphinx. Next up is a flight to the Swiss town of Lugano for a two-night stay, followed by another two-night land jaunt in fashion-forward Milan.

From there, passengers will embark on a weeklong sailing on the S.S. La Venezia along Italy’s Po River and Venice Lagoon, followed by a journey north to Hungary, where passengers will board the S.S. Maria Theresa in Budapest and sail for a week to Passau, Germany. The fourth leg of the trip is a weeklong itinerary aboard the S.S. Joie de Vivre on France’s famous Seine.

And finally, the journey ends in Portugal, with a cruise on the Douro river aboard the S.S. Sao Gabriel and a final three nights spent in Lisbon.

All five super ships are specifically designed for their rivers, which means each features locally inspired décor. Onboard, all dining — including wine, beer, and spirits — are included, as are excursions. Transportation is taken care of throughout the journey, too, from flights to airport transfers.

“We’re so proud to announce the inaugural ‘Rivers of the World’ itinerary; our longest and most action-packed sailing to date spanning nine countries aboard five of our world-class Super Ships,” Ellen Bettridge, president and CEO of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, said in a statement released to Travel + Leisure. “It’s an itinerary like none other and a true vacation of a lifetime with surprises at every turn.”

Uniworld’s Rivers of the World cruise starts at USD 38,999 (INR 31,64,398) per person; book your trip here.
