As per the recently updated travel guidelines by Hawaii tourism, travellers can now opt for pre-travel testing and skip the 14-day quarantine upon arrival. By Kumar Shree
Hawaii tourism has recently introduced a new update in its travel guidelines, which allows travellers to bypass the mandatory 14-day quarantine period, provided they show a COVID-19 negative test report. The conditions require the test to be taken from an FDA-approved nasal swab COVID-19 test kit, at least 72 hours prior to their arrival; and, travellers have to bear the cost themselves.

This arrangement was expected to roll out in August itself, but the surging number of COVID-19 cases had put it on the backburner. However, now, the authorities are hopeful of rolling out the new scheme by October 15.
Moreover, before boarding the flight, travellers must install and setup the Safe Travels application on their phones. All forms related to health and contact information will be available through this app. They will also need to undergo temperature checks upon arrival on the island.

As reported by hawaii.gov, Gov. David Ige said, “I am pleased to launch this digital form, which will allow our travellers to provide their required health and travel information before they arrive at the airport… It will also help us keep in contact with those who are required to be in quarantine. This is an important step in preparing to reopen our economy.”
Earlier this month, Hawaii’s island of Kauai became the first to qualify for a ‘Resort Bubble’ programme. This programme allows quarantined guests to go around the property without leaving the perimeter. Their position is constantly monitored through an electronic monitoring bracelet to make sure they do not leave the property.
