The state government of Himachal Pradesh has recently proposed developing new trekking routes or ‘nature paths’ in the region, in a bid to attract tourists. The plan which will be developed under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme will be launched in regions likes Chamba, Tissa, Mehla, Bhatiyat and Salooni.

As per reports from various news outlets, each area is slated to have atleast 10 of these ‘nature paths.’

Chamba is well known for its scenic location and proximity to lush meadows and snow-capped mountains. The trek routes will be promoted as nature paths, and this initiative is set in motion to attract more tourists to the region. There are also reports, according to Times of India, of plans to popularise the concept of homestays in the villages through where these paths will pass by. The tourism authorities plan to help villages in setting up their homes for a comfortable stay.

Referring to this development, Chamba Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia told the media that preparations for developing the natural paths have already started, reported Times of India.

Authorities are hopeful of this initiative opening up new opportunities for the region and providing a boost to business in the region, ultimately lending a helping hand in the development of locals.

The town of Chamba holds a lot of historical significance and is home to many temples that date back to as far as the 10th century. The attractive hill station also sees a lot of visitors from across heading to Manimahesh, a holy site among followers of Lord Shiva.

If you are looking to head to Chamba, Delhi has daily buses plying from multiple points in the city. The nearest airport is in Gaggal which is 135-kilometres away and the nearest railroad is at Pathankot, which is 120-kilometres away from the town.
