Hong Kong International Airport has reopened for transit passengers from June 1. Confirming the same on its Twitter handle, the airport earlier said, Air transit/transfer services at HKIA will be resumed in phases starting from June 1. All passengers are required to wear face masks in HKIA’s restricted area from June 1 until further notice. Only transit/transfer passengers who have been checked through at the origin port and take flights operated by the same airline group are accepted at HKIA. Passengers should confirm in advance if they are able to enter the final destination.

However, it has still not allowed non-Hong Kong residents to enter the country. “The no-entry restriction for non-Hong Kong residents from overseas remains unchanged according to Hong Kong SAR Government. All passengers are required to wear face masks in HKIA’s restricted area from June 1, 2020, until further notice,” the airport wrote on its Facebook page.

While travel restrictions remain the same, non-Hong Kong residents coming from mainland China, Taiwan, Macau, will have to be in a 14-day quarantine period, and might even be refused entry in case they have travelled to any of the overseas countries within a period of 14 days before arriving in Hong Kong.

Moreover, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has also been operating special flights to bring back Hong Kong residents stranded in India. Similarly, it has also arranged two special flights for its people stuck in Nepal

Furthermore, the airport has also been testing CLean Tech, a full-body disinfection channel facility. “Persons using the facility will have a temperature check before entering an enclosed channel for the 40-second disinfection and sanitising procedures. The interior surface of the channel is equipped with antimicrobial coating, which can remotely kill virus and bacteria on human bodies and clothing by using the technologies of photocatalyst and ‘nano needles’. Sanitising spray is also applied for instant disinfection. The channel is kept under negative pressure to prevent cross-contamination between the outside and inside environment,” it mentioned on its official website.
