India’s largest and first-ever biennale of contemporary art — Kochi–Muziris Biennale — has just announced that the fifth edition of the 120-day event is slated to begin from December 12, 2020, as scheduled. In spite of preparations for the same being halted and delayed, the officials of the festival have assured that the event will go on as planned, bringing much cheer to art enthusiasts around the country.
Although Kochi–Muziris Biennale is one of the more recent art biennales, with the first edition being flagged-off on December 12, 2012, the art exhibition has garnered international interest and has made a name for itself in the global art scene. Each edition of the festival has already increased the number of local and foreign tourists who flock the venue to immerse in the glory of a variety of art.

The Kochi–Muziris Biennale usually takes place across 10-14 venues including popular ones like Aspinwall House, Pepper House and Fort Kochi beach. The festival’s advisory committee has committed to following all social distancing and precautionary norms to conduct the four-month-long festival safely that will end in April 2021.
The curators have already started to set up the installations, and discussions on fundraising are also underway. The event’s official twitter account released the first list of artists that are slated to participate; it includes Mithra Kamalam, Priya Sen, Arpita Singh and Sahil Naik from India.
