It’s that time of the year again when the weather is perfect for sojourns, but in some parts of the country, the air quality and the places as such aren’t the cleanest. In times like these, when you really need a calm, relaxing getaway, planning a trip to some of the cleanest destinations in India can be helpful, and we’ve curated a list for you!

Mawlynnong

Touted to be Asia’s cleanest village, Mawlynnong is about 100 kilometres from Shillong in Meghalaya. The river Umngot passes through the village, which has crystal clear waters – so much so that the Jal Sjakti Ministry recently tweeted about it! The Ministry’s post read, “One of the cleanest rivers in the world. It is in India. River Umngot, 100 Kms from Shillong, in Meghalaya state. It seems as if the boat is in air; water is so clean and transparent. Wish all our rivers were as clean. Hats off to the people of Meghalaya.”

Indore has won the title of the Cleanest City in India for four years, with its measures to manage its trash and keep the roads clean. If you’re planning a trip here, do visit the Rajwada Palace and the Central Museum, try the Indori Poha and be sure to bring back namkeens and snacks for your friends back home!

The second cleanest city in India, Surat is known for its textiles and diamonds. Explore the Gujarati city and indulge in some yummy food on your visit here, and immerse yourself in the heritage and culture that Surat has to offer. Also, spare a day and make a trip to the Statue of Unity!

The final destination on this list (but by no means the final destination overall!) is Mysuru. The South Indian city is known for beautiful palaces and other majestic buildings, which are any architecture and history lover’s delight. Mysuru is among the cleanest cities in South India, and makes for a great escape from the bustling metropolitan cities and their excessive noise and pollution.
