On your way to Sohra from Shillong, you would pass through the beautiful Duwan Singh Syiem Bridge. This bridge serves as the gateway to the Sohra tourist circuit. Just a few kilometres from this bridge lies the breathtaking Mawkdok Dympep Valley, stretching far into the horizon. Most tourists stop here for a while to soak in the scenic beauty on their way to Sohra. Located in the midst of a deep gorge and surrounded by lush hills on either side, the valley is truly a sight to behold.
Nohkalikai Falls

Located around 5km from Cherrapunjee, Nohkalikai is one of the highest waterfalls in India. Reaching the waterfall is an experience that will remain etched in your mind for a long time. The drive to the falls takes you through winding roads, and brown meadows, and ends at a cliff. The best time to visit Nohkalikai is around the evening when the golden rays of the setting sun add to the beauty of the falls. The viewing deck also features small shops that sell souvenirs and knick-knacks. There’s a kid’s park too. Here’s a tip: don’t forget to pick up a bottle of local honey.
Dainthlen Falls

This spectacular waterfall is around 80 to 9o metres high and derives its name from a snake called thlen in the Khasi language. The place is steeped in the legend of the snake, who used to reside in a cave here. The waterfall is spread across in a semicircular shape and is flocked by tourists in droves. Come monsoon and the beauty of the waterfalls would enhance to such an extent that they may even remind you of the roaring Niagara Falls.
Wei Sawdong

One of the most Instagrammed spots in Meghalaya, Wei Samdong is famous for its three-tiered waterfall that cascades into a pool of azure waters. It’s a challenging trek to the falls and you’ll be passing through rough rocky terrain and makeshift bamboo stairs. The hike to the viewpoint is easy but if you wish to go to the pool, be prepared for a steep hike. Be mindful of the muddy terrain. We do not recommend this trek for senior citizens and minors.
Mawsmai Cave

A half-hour drive from Sohra takes you to the immensely popular Mawsmai Cave. It’s the only fully lit cave in Meghalaya and a 150m stretch is open to tourists. The fascinating limestone formations in the cave trail look utterly magnificent when bathed in sunlight. The cave trail gets narrower and more adventurous as you walk towards its end. Do note that there’s no turning back once you enter the cave trail as there is a constant stream of tourists coming in and the path keeps getting narrower.
Seven Sister Falls

Also known as Nohsngithiang or Mawsmai Falls in the local parlance, the Seven Sister Falls are located near Mawsmai village. You can enjoy the unparalleled beauty of the waterfalls rolling down lush and lofty hills from a deck located by the roadside. The viewpoint overlooks a gorgeous valley with a cluster of seven waterfalls plummeting from a cliff. The falls are one of the tallest in India and make for a charming experience for lovers of the great outdoors. You’ll also find small shacks near the viewpoint. Grab a cup of hot tea and take in the beauty of the falls.
Thangkharang Park

Perched on the edge of a rocky cliff, the Tangkharang Park is another popular tourist attraction in Cherrapunjee. Overlooking the lush floodplains of Bangladesh, the park offers incredible views of the majestic Kynrem Falls. The park also features exotic orchids and rare plants endemic to the area. On the other side of the park stands the Khoh Ramhah rock formation which can be reached through a small bridge. The rock formation attracts tourists for its unusual shape and structure.

One of the most popular resorts in Cherrapunjee is Saimika Park and Resort. They offer spacious, clean rooms and great food. Coniferous Resort in lower Cherrapunjee houses naturally lit and well-appointed rooms, elegantly designed with beautiful interiors, and come with comfortable and good quality linens. Sohra Plaza Homestay on the Sohra-Shella Road is located on top of a small cliff with a beautiful view. It’s quite popular among backpackers. Polo Orchid Resort tucked away amidst the quaint village of Nohsithiang, is another good option for a luxurious stay.
How to reach
By Air: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (155km) is the nearest airport. From here, you can hire a taxi for Shillong. From Shillong, you can take another taxi from the Police Bazaar taxi stand for your onward journey. Umroi Airport in Shillong is only served by flights from Kolkata.
By Rail: Guwahati is the nearest railway station. You can board an MTC bus for Shillong or hire a direct taxi for Cherrapunjee.
By Road: The Tourist Taxi Association at Shillong offers taxis for Cherrapunjee and other nearby places.
