With the Delhi government making offices virtual yet again, many will be looking to break away from the monotony of their rooms and homes and travelling to other destinations for a workation. If you’re one of them, whether from the city or wanting to explore the Himalayas a little more, we have some exquisite destinations in Himachal Pradesh that you should explore! By Anushka Goel

We’re in the middle of the third wave now, and as the government regulates travel and movement, even we’re looking to step out of the house as little as possible to keep ourselves safe from COVID-19. That being said, we’re back to working from the confines of the bedroom (or study, if you’re lucky enough to have one), which may or may not be possible for all.

If you’re anything like me, who lives with parents in a gated colony, you know how much of a ruckus working from home can create – be it the household chores, the constant ringing of the doorbell or young kids playing in the park that overlooks your window.

And while a workation in Himachal Pradesh was set to be a thing of the past, and we were looking forward to travelling for leisure, keeping our laptops and internet connections behind, unfortunately, the third wave has brought us back into situations we were trying to escape. We are back to our homes, and looking for places to work from that can bring a pleasant change of scenery, calm and serenity.

If you love the hills and feel at home amid nature, Himachal Pradesh is a great bet to escape the cities, the ruckus, pollution and everything else. So, check out our list of workation destinations in Himachal Pradesh, and make the most of 2022’s work from home. And no, we do not have Manali or McLeodganj on the list (even though they are great destinations).

Workation destinations in Himachal Pradesh

Kalpa

Soak in the beautiful sights and views of the Kinnaur Kailash mountains as you set up your work from home desk in Kalpa. Carry a dongle in case you’re worried about internet connectivity, and work away with delicious food and cups of hot chai! What’s more, once free from work, you can go on long walks, explore the apple orchards (if the locals permit) and even taste some fresh, delicious fruit! Honestly, this is one of my favourite destinations, and views of the sun casting a golden glow on the Kinnaur Kailash mountain as I sipped chai at 5:00 am in the morning are memories etched into my brain forever.

Dalhousie

We’re trying to stay away from the more mainstream hill stations for this workation list, but Dalhousie is a place that has to get a spot here! The quaint hill station makes for picturesque views, comfortable homestays and hostels and clean air – a rarity this time of the year in Delhi. And once you’re done with your work, there’s a lot to do in the town, from hikes and treks to picnics, trips to the waterfall and more!

Kasol

Kasol makes for a great workation destination with its abundant beauty, greenery and mountain views that are sure to bring you some calm in the middle of a hectic day. In an ideal world, we would have recommended using your spare time going on the Kheergang trek, but since information on whether it’s open or close is something you’ll have to check when you travel, we would suggest making the most of the weekend by visiting Tosh and spending quiet evenings by the Parvati river.

Sainj

You may have visited Kullu several times or at least heard of the popular tourist destination, but just 45 kilometres from there is the quaint town of Sainj. An offbeat traveller’s paradise, the place is not only surrounded by scenic beauty but cloud-clad mountains with peaks of snow, tall trees and overall lush greenery that envelopes you into a warm embrace. Set your laptop in the balcony or garden of your stay and make the most of your meetings as you relax with the breathtaking view. Over the weekend, visit Kullu or other nearby spots, go on nature walks and strike a conversation with the locals!

Mashobra

With the town covered in a layer of snow, the cool weather and the bright sun will make you want to spend your day outdoors! A workation from Mashobra is a great option, even for those looking for budget places to stay at, as the place has several hostels and homestays you can make the most out of. And while you’re there, be sure to indulge in some local pahadi cuisine!

Bir

With numerous hostels and adventures such as paragliding and treks, Bir Billing attracts thousands of youngsters seeking adventure. And a workation here is a great idea – you’ll most likely meet interesting people from all parts of the country, and if you’re staying at a hostel, evenings will be filled with jam sessions and more! Explore this beautiful town once you’re done with work, and check out the monasteries here. You can even go hiking and spot as many birds as you can along the route!

Jibhi

Of course, the town is covered in a blanket of white at the moment, but Jibhi is an amazing destination for those who love peace, quiet and adventure. In your off time, visit the Jalori Pass, Raghupur Fort and other spots that the place has to get the best of nature, history and breathtaking beauty in one trip!

The beautiful workation in Himachal Pradesh offers, apart from stunning views, beautiful spots such as the Laxminarayan Temple that you can tour when not working. Soak in the sun as you breathe in clean, fresh air while you work, and in the evenings, opt for walks and sightseeing to make the most of your stay.
