While most blogs talk about road trips from the big cities, if you go to remote regions in the country, the beauty you may come across is still untapped. So, if you’re planning a trip to Assam, here are some road trips from Guwahati that you can take which will be fulfilling and wholesome experiences for you.

Make a trip to the abode of clouds in about four hours. The four-lane expressway to Shillong is a pleasure for both drivers and passengers, and the distance will seem like nothing as you soak in the scenic beauty of the place. Make a stop at Nongpoh for some snacks, homemade pickles of various sorts and fresh, juicy pineapples before you arrive at your destination.

Kaziranga

The home of the one-horned rhinoceros, Kaziranga is just four-and-a-half hours away from Assam’s capital and makes for one of the most fun road trips from Guwahati. The place, a tiger reserve, is a great choice for nature lovers, and the road trip will be made all the more worth it if you can spare some more time to visit Sibsagar and get a glimpse of the state’s history.

The beautiful valley in Arunachal Pradesh offers scenic views, and the over nine-hour long drive will make you witness a change of scenery and fresh air as you drive through the hills. When in Ziro, opt for a trek to bring out the adventurous side in you.

The popular hill station is known for its tea estates and makes for one of the many great road trips from Guwahati. Travel to Darjeeling over a long weekend this year and indulge in some calming scents as you walk through tea gardens, and enjoy a cuppa with an amazing view all around you!

Tawang

Tawang is a popular destination for those who love the mountains and nature, and the place is a 14-hour drive from Guwahati. But don’t be afraid, because the trip is totally worth it! Nestled amid the valleys, Tawang offers clean air, greenery, a different cultural experience and local cuisine that you can indulge in, and visit the various monasteries the place has. Make a stopover at Dirang or Tezpur as you make this tough journey and make the most of one of the long weekends the year has to offer!

India-Burma Border

Probably one of the toughest road trips from Guwahati, this trip has one of the most dangerous terrains to drive on in India. The 11-hour road trip is also among the most underrated, but definitely a memorable one. You’ll have to travel to a place called Jairampur to make this road trip and reach the India-Myanmar Friendship Road, but the destination and journey, both are definitely worth the drive!

The world’s largest river island is just a few hours away from Guwahati and can be reached either via a ferry from Neematighat in Jorhator via Lakhimpur. The place is home to the Brahmaputra river and offers a calming, relaxing getaway from the city.

Dawki

Dawki has the Umngot river flowing through its waters, which has been creating a buzz because of its crystal clear waters. The place is quite close to Guwahati, especially when compared to the other destinations mentioned in this list, and the scenic drive will make it all the more worth the while.

The capital city of Mizoram is a slightly longer drive from Guwahati but makes for a great drive since the roads are like the ones to Shillong. Aizawl in itself is full of scenic beauty, and since it’s a city, you can also travel and work from there as you spend some much-needed time away from home (if you live in Guwahati) and is just a great destination to be in overall.
